Vascular Surgery, is one of the youngest surgical specialties, taking its first steps in the early '50s. The vascular surgeon is considered a specialist with knowledge and skills in: diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic management - medical and surgical - of circulatory diseases, including arterial territory, venous and lymphatic and also the endovascular surgery, whose origins date from the late '70s.
There are many different treatments available for varicose veins. These treatments vary based on to the size of the varicose veins, the presence of any symptoms, and the location of the veins. Briefly, treatments include:
• Sclerotherapy (injection of a liquid into the vein)
• Laser therapy
• Surgery (removal of the varicose veins, or vein stripping).
